Cover for Spider-Island: Cloak and Dagger Issue #2.
Pencils and digital.
I like a lot of individual things about this piece, in terms of my progression in getting better as an artist, etc. not necessarily as a finished product.
I like the effect of the highlights on the spiderwebs in the background, and I think the skin on the two might be the best I've ever done in color (even though that's not saying that much,) especially Dagger, even though there's definitely still some muddiness in the rendering.
I also tried to separate the elements, following the advice of fellow Texas grad Alex Garner, but I think I might have gone too far in the other direction, in that there's not a lot of unity between the characters and the backgrounds.
Even worse though, is the fact that's there's something clearly missing in the piece overall. There's something lacking in the impact, in that it's kind of just there.
I have some time to change it or fix it before it goes into publication. Hopefully I can make the extra work into a piece that SAYS something, if I can think of how.
